A post by American actress and model Karrueche Tran nearly blew Instagram to shambles this week as she shared her thoughts on abortion in light of the recent passing of a bill in the Alabama senate that could result in doctors who perform abortions in that state being sentenced with life in prison. In a post that read, ‘F*** your abortion ban’, the actress went on to post a middle finger emoji, which triggered a stream of angry comments, and others in support of her social stance.
“Abortion isn’t right. Irrespective of the pregnant woman’s situation, it should be illegal, just like in my country…” one woman wrote.
“My body, my choice!” another shot back.
“Society today says killing animals for food is bad, but terminating a pregnancy to prevent a mother from hardship is good. This is exactly what Malcom ‘X’ meant when he said if you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything,” another user opined.
“Don’t kill the innocent,” said yet another.
Scenarios where girls and women had gotten pregnant not through their own choice were brought into the conversation, as well as the abuse an unwanted child could suffer as a result of a mother allowing a pregnancy to progress to term.
Some users called for people around the world to educate themselves on women’s rights over the years, and for men to simply, ‘stop telling women what to do with their bodies.’
The still heated post was littered with people calling for a worldwide abortion ban, in the midst of a conversation which continues to attract a myriad of perspectives from women and men across the globe. — K.W
