EASTER WEEKEND SPORTS EXTRAVAGANZA

Easter celebrations are in the air and one can make a pick as to which sporting events are worth attending as a number of sporting organizations and communities will be hosting events at various venues around the island. Activities will continue throughout the weekend and up until Easter Monday (April 22nd) with the climax of the Senior Games happening at the Phillip Marcellin Ground in Vieux Fort.   

The showpiece will start with the Saint Lucia National Cricket Association Inter-District Under- 19 tournament sponsored by Sandals Saint Lucia. One game is scheduled for today; (Saturday 20th) with Babonneau playing Anse la Raye at the Balata Playing Field.

Tomorrow (Sunday 21st), will see the last match in the preliminary round of the tournament when Gros Islet takes on Anse la Raye at the Gros Islet Playing Field.

On Monday 22nd, in a rescheduled match, Central Castries plays Babonneau at the Balata Playing Field.

Matches bowl off from 10.00 a.m.

Two matches are slated for today (Saturday 20th) in the Mabouya Valley Youth and Sports Council/Parliamentary Representative Shawn Edward T20 cricket tournament. In Group A, round 3; from 10.00 a.m. Aux Lyon plays Mabouya Valley Under-19s and at 2.00 p.m. Veterans come up against Young Generations.

On Sunday 21st, from 10.00 a.m. Togetherness Youth play RYO and Survivals take on Monarch at 2.00 p.m.

Also on Sunday, the attention will switch to the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground for the Regional Police T20 Tournament final. Going to Press, it is still unclear as to which two teams made it to the final this time around. Winner A played the second team in Group B and winner B took on the second team in Group A.

The participating countries/teams are Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, the British Virgin Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago and host and defending champions, Saint Lucia.

Today (Saturday 20th) two matches are on the cards in the Saint Lucia Football Association Inc. First Division competition at the Marchand Grounds.

From 6.00 p.m. Platinum FC takes on El Ninos; while Ti Rocher plays VSADC at 8.00 p.m.

The Des Barras Playing Field in Babonneau will come alive on Sunday 21st with cricket action in the Ezekiel Joseph/National Lotteries Super 40 Competition with the second semifinal between Babonneau Under- 19s and Touring United. Cacoa has already booked their spot to the final with a six-wicket win over Des Barras this past weekend.

Today (Saturday 20th) in the La Clery Football League/ Parliamentary Representative Cup from 5.00 p.m, Agardianz FC take on Radics United and Beta Stars play against Hustlers United at 7.00 p.m.

Tomorrow, from 5.00 p.m. FLOW Lancers FC versus Bisee United and Active Strikers play La Clery Veterans.

Action continues today in the third edition of the Cue Sports Saint Lucia Inc. Crystal Cup Pool tournament from 7.00 p.m. The event is sponsored by Sean Wrecker and Garage Service, Gemini Impressions and participating venues. Following last weekend’s 4th/5th qualifying rounds of the competition, the showpiece moves to Charlie’s Sports Bar in Vieux Fort.

On Monday 22nd, the Phillip Marcellin Grounds in Vieux Fort will come alive with the staging of the Senior Games starting from 9.30 a.m. Close to 350 athletes will be on show representing their various districts.
