COMING hot on the heels of a successful staging of its Anti-Doping in Sports, Karate-Do Federation, Saint Lucia is informing all affiliates that the rescheduled General Council Meeting of the Federation will take place at the Saint Lucia Olympic Committee Inc Head Quarters in La Clery this weekend, on Saturday 29th September 2018 from 3.00 p.m.
President Oliver Lawrence said, in accordance with Article 11.1 of the constitution, each affiliate shall be represented by two individuals; in addition affiliates are to ensure they are in good standing.
Article 11.1 reads – The Council shall be made up of the members of the Executive and two representatives of each affiliate club. Only representatives of full members in good standing shall be allowed to vote at a Council Meeting.
Twenty-Five percent of permanent voting membership shall be required for a quorum for a Council Meeting.
The Federation would like to appeal to all its affiliates to actively participate in affairs of their Federation, namely:-Budokai Karate Dojo, Bushido Shotokan Karate-do Academy, Hatsuryu Martial Arts Temple, Zanshin Karate Dojo, Premier Karate Dojo, the Saint Lucia Shotokan Karate Association and Golden Phoenix Karate.
The General Council is the second highest decision making body outside the National Congress, and therefore they ought to let their presence and voices team work in progressing the mandate of the Federation.
Over the past four weekends the Federation has conducted (1) The First of Three Referees and Judges Seminar (2) Consultation on a Draft Strategic Plan 2018-2028, (3) Anti-Doping in Sports facilitated by Dr. Kenneth Louisy, a full three years (14/3/15) after its first participation in an Anti-Doping session for Coaches, Assistant Coaches and Trainers (4) The First of Three Referees and Judges Seminar.
Earlier, KFStLu (April) had the pleasure of hosting Cleveland Baxter, Chairman of the Pan American Karate Federation (PKF) Referees and Judges Commission, and Member of the World Karate Federation(WKF) Referees and Judges Commission. Baxter is also a member of the United States Karate Federation.
The Federation also has the admirable record of conducting training in Emergency First Response for all its Chief Instructors and Technical personnel in 2015.
The importance of active involvement in the working of the Federation can’t be over emphasis.
Lawrence said, “It is very Challenging, bearing in mind the expectation of our general membership, the resources at hand, (Financial and Human), and with it Olympic status, much to be done, much is needed”.
He continued, “The world will see the beauty and grace of one aspect of karate at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic, and the tremendous benefit and opportunity to be derived”.
“So this is no time for sitting on the fence and hope “the land of milk and honey” will come around. Don’t wait for others to do for you, what you can do for yourself”.
