WEST INDIES Under-19 man, 19-year-old AlickAthanaze led Dominica to the Windward Islands Men’s 50-over-a-side cricket championship with a well-compiled century, as they defeated Saint Vincent and the Grenadines by 15 runs in a closely-fought final on Wednesday.
Dominica, batting first, reached 215 all-out 45 overs with AlickAthanaze top-scoring with 101, supported by Kavem Hodge 38, Liam Sebastian 22 and Micah Joseph 17 not out.
Bowling for Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Casmond Walters picked up 3 for 25 and Obed McCoy 4 for 17
Chasing 216 for victory, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines was dismissed for 200 in 40 overs.
Donwell Hector 36, Delorn Johnson 37, Kenneth Dembar 24 and Casmond Walters 22 the main contributors with the bat.
Bowling for Dominica, Kavem Hodge took 3 for 32 in 10 overs and Liam Sebastian 3 for 45 in 8 overs.
Meanwhile, hosts Saint Lucia had to settle for 3rd place after defeating Grenada by 85 runs at the La Ressource playing field.
Saint Lucia, winning the toss and batting, made 281 for 8 in their allotted 50 overs.
This total was aided by a 153-run 4th wicket partnership between Captain Johnson Charles (who top scored with 91) and Jamal James, playing his first game of the tournament with 70.
Other useful scores came from Larry Edward with 46 not-out and Stephen Naitram on 29.
The most successful bowlers for Grenada wereP: Deron Hypolite with 3 for 52 in 9.5 overs, Preston Mc Sween 3 for 66 in 10 overs and Daniel Mc Donald 2 for 52 in 9 overs.
In reply, the Grenadines were dismissed for 196 in 37.1 overs with Keone George remaining on 63 not out, Preston Mc Sween 33 and Captain Roland Cato 27.
The wickets for Saint Lucia were shared between Audy Alexander (with 3 for 43 in 10 overs, Dalton Polius with 2 for 25 in 8.1 overs), Jeremy Marshall (2 for 31 in 5 overs), Larry Edward (2 for 48 in 7 overs) and 1 wicket to Kevin Augustin.
