THE local cannabis movement is calling on the Government of Saint Lucia to make a definitive statement on the progress toward cannabis law reform in Saint Lucia.
The call was made by Dr Marcus Day, on behalf of the local committee, which has been pressing succeeding governments on the issue of legalization or decriminalization of marijuana.
In response to a statement by the Minister of National Security Hermangild Francis, former prime Minister Dr Kenny D. Anthony wrote in a Facebook post: “The Leader of the SLP and I have both said publicly that we support decriminalisation of marijuana.
“In fact, I said so publicly at the last sitting of the House of Assembly.”
According to a brief statement issued by Day yesterday, “The Cannabis Movement of Saint Lucia calls on the Government of Saint Lucia to make a definitive statement on the progress toward cannabis law reform in Saint Lucia.
The local group’s statement follows indications that Grenada is considering decriminalization of the herb, just after Antigua recently also signalled it is moving in the same direction.
