THE recent spate of deaths this week has seen this year’s number of road fatalities and homicides, rise to nine and twelve respectively.
Two of the deaths were homicides, the eleventh and twelfth of this year. The other was a road fatality.
The year’s eleventh homicide involved “a known individual” who is a suspect in the death of Bernard Edmond of Diamond Soufriere.
Per the Royal St. Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) press release, Edmond was a 57 year old man who “sustained injuries about the body as a result of an altercation…” with the above mentioned individual and “was later pronounced dead by a medical practitioner.”
The death of “Kacy Laurent of Barre Denis” who “sustained a stab wound to the abdomen during an incident which occurred at La Croix Maingot about 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 21, 2018.” brought the total number of recorded homicides for the year to twelve, according to police.
Three days later, Laurent “succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by a medical practitioner” on “Thursday May 24, 2018 about 4:00a.m.”
“Dane Maximin, a nineteen (19) year old resident of Garrand, Babonneau” in the lone road fatality for the week and the ninth of the year, “was found lying motionless on the road near a drain,” stated a press release from police.
The report stated that “he was the rider of motor cycle registration number PJ1668 which appeared to have collided with another vehicle.” Investigations are ongoing.
