Junior Achievement and Scotiabank End 2nd Annual Innovation Camp

JUNIOR Achievement St Lucia partnered with Scotia Bank to run the 2nd annual Innovation Camp. The camp was held at Union Orchid Farm on April 9th 2018 and introduced approximately 30 students to the processes and techniques that innovators and entrepreneurs use to come up with solutions and innovations to solve a problem.

Innovation Camp offers an experiential learning environment for students based on real-life business situations. The day began with an ice breaker and students were given four hours to develop their ideas and pitch to a panel of judges. The teams used their creativity to design apps and other innovative products and services for Scotia Bank, which impressed the judges and made it tough to choose a winner.

Excellers of Entrepot Secondary emerged winners of the competition with their “Bank Your Selfie” promotion. The campaign encouraged young people to take a selfie at the ATM whenever they use that service and share with their network via social media, therefore encouraging the youth to save in a fun and relaxed way and also promoting the banks services. Jury members included Scotia Bank’s Collateral and Business Support Officer Ms. Yetta Lord, JA Director Ms. Pauline Wolff and Volunteer Mrs. Karla Daniel

Ms. Lord shared her experience saying, “It was definitely more than an honour to represent Scotiabank at the 2018 Innovation Camp. The Bank continues to hold a key interest in the development and preparation of the youth for the future and I strongly believe that we will continue to partner with Junior Achievement to ensure this goal is met. Additionally, the Innovation Camp comes at a time when innovation is a major driving force in our world today therefore creating an opportunity to enable the youth to understand its importance was a great initiative by the JA. Job Well Done!”

Newly elected chairman of JA Mr. Kirt Hosam made an impromptu stop to engage with students and to personally thank Scotia Bank for providing this opportunity where the problem solving skills of our Junior Achievers are nurtured.

JA extends appreciation and thanks to the jury, JA Directors, volunteers and mentors for their support and to Renwick & Company for providing refreshments for the event.
