CUBA had a brilliant performance in the XIX World Championship of Boxing when it was crowned for the twelfth time as champion, thanks to the five gold medals and two silvers obtained in the last day of the championship.
Johanys Argilagos opened the golden path of Cuba at the Hamburg-2017 World Boxing Championships on Saturday, beating Uzbekistan’s Hasanboy Dusmatov in the 49-kilogramme division.
Yosbany Veitía contributed the second world title to the Cuban boxing squad after winning in the end of the division of the 52 kilogrammes over Uzbek Jasurbek Latipov.
Andy Cruz became the third Cuban world champion of this year’s edition of Hamburg-2017, defeating in the final of the 64 kilogrammes division Uzbek Ikboljon Kholdarov.
Cuban Julio Cesar La Cruz won by a unanimous vote of 5-0 in the final of the division of the 81 kilogrammes division, contributing the fourth Cuban crown in this event.
Erislady Savón completed the Cuban harvest of five gold medals at the Hamburg-2017 World Boxing Championships after beating Russia’s Evgeny Tishchenko in the 91-kg division final.
With the performance of the Cubans, the Caribbean country has 79 gold medals in the 17 World Boxing Championships in which it has participated.
