Event Set For September 24
PRESS RELEASE – THE Big Players Football Club’s fourth Annual Fun Walk is scheduled for Sunday, September 24.
The walk will commence at 6:30 a.m. at the Marchand Grounds. People from the community, schools, sports clubs and the general public are expected to participate in the fun walk.
The walk was started in 2014 as a means of encouraging people in the community to appreciate and embrace sports, exercise and fitness as a way of life.
The route for the walk will be the same as previous years, i.e. starting at Marchand, heading through Bocage, TiRocher, Trois Piton, Old Victoria Road, Pavee, Rock Hall and back to Marchand. Sensei Oliver Lawrence will conduct the pre-walk briefing and the warm-down exercise after the walk.
The walk is a challenging, interesting and enjoyable one in that participants will enjoy the fresh morning breeze and the breath-taking views along the route.
The Marchand Health Centre and the Ministry of Health will conduct a health fair after the walk which will feature dissemination of information; blood sugar, blood pressure, HIV and eye tests, and counselling. The health fair has been a very well-supported component of the fun walk with many people taking the opportunity to conduct their personal health checks
Registration will be done on Saturday, September 16; Saturday, September 23; and Sunday, September 24, the latter date immediately before the walk.
Prizes will be awarded to the first, second and third place winners; youngest male; youngest female; oldest male; and oldest female. Gold, silver and bronze medals and sponsors products will be awarded to the first 30 finishers.
Lots of fun games will be organised after the walk.
