ACTING Police Commissioner Milton Desir said his department will be guided by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in its investigations into the shooting death of a man from Balata by a Special Police Constable on the night of July 14.
It is alleged that Simeon Joseph attempted to rob the constable, who was in plainclothes at the time in George V Park.
It was further alleged that Joseph was in the company of two other men during the alleged attempted robbery.
Human rights advocate, Mary Francis, has since called for a speedy investigation into the matter. Desir said it is up to the officer in question to prove he acted in self defense. The officer, whose name has yet to be released by police, is said to be still on duty.
The police to date have yet to release any information about the incident as the Police Press Relations Office has been mum on the incident.
