The Soufriere Regional Development Foundation (SRDF) continues to undertake the training of persons in all sectors relevant to the development of the community.
The Youth Development Department organized an intensive two-day Career Readiness Workshop to promote capacity building of the youth at the Cool Breeze Conference Room.
The organization recognized that career preparedness was undefined among many of the youth and that there was a need for persons to be acquainted with the basic elements of resumé writing and the importance of preparing for interviews.
“The aim of the workshop was to better equip persons with the knowledge of writing resumés and curriculum vitae, portfolio building and interview skills to make them more competitive,” said Youth Development Officer, Johnson Simon.
The workshop, which was held on Saturday, April 1 and Saturday April 8, was facilitated by Peace Corps Volunteer, Grace Kilbane and Career Consultant, Dominic Alexander.
According to Mr. Alexander, “The SRDF recognizes that there is a gap between what is imparted at a school level and what is required to identify potential applicants for jobs at the organization. The intention was to provide the participants with the skills to enhance what was learnt at the secondary level.”
He added that with a very high level of unemployment in Soufriere, these skills augur well in enhancing the abilities and opportunities for the participants.
Nineteen people attended the workshop and were presented with certificates upon completion of the workshop.
