THE first National Workers Union (NWU) Youth Congress takes place this Sunday at the Royal by Rex Resorts at Reduit Beach, Gros Islet.
About fifty young workers between the ages of 18 and 35 from branches of the NWU will be in attendance.
Participants will be welcomed by Johann Harewood, Assistant Secretary General of the Union. Minister Edmund Estephane, under whose Ministry Empowerment and Youth Development falls, will address the group.
The feature address will be delivered by Keithlin Caroo, Junior Desk Officer — Mediation Support Unit, Policy and Mediation Division in the Department of Political Affairs of the United Nations.
The National Workers Union Youth Council will be launched during the proceedings. The initiative is to prepare young workers to hold top positions in the organization. Some draft rules and regulations will be reviewed and by the end of the session, an Executive Committee of the Youth Council will be elected.
Going forward, the Council will help shape the minds of young workers to understand and have a national voice on the social, economic and political challenges confronting Saint Lucia, under the motto, “Consolidate for survival: let’s shape the future”.
