STUDENTS from the Augier Combined School benefited from the generosity of Caribbean North Charity Foundation earlier this week when that organization donated 50 backpacks and a quantity of books to the school.
Caribbean North Charity Foundation is a non-profit organization based in Canada.
Vito Spatafora, regional and local councilor of Richmond Hill, Canada, who teamed up with the foundation to make the donation, said they were happy to assist the school in such a way, adding that other schools on the island will also benefit from their generosity.
“We hope the donation will benefit the school…We understand that school supplies are not always available to the students,” Spatafora said.
Transitional Consultant at the St. Jude Hospital, Vorna Charles, said the hospital saw the need to assist the school by presenting it with school supplies because it will improve the students reading skills among other things.
“We realize there are needy children in our community who cannot afford basic schools supplies,” Charles said.
She added that the foundation has also donated an ambulance to the St. Jude Hospital.
Kajana James, Principal of the Augier Combined School, thanked the foundation for its assistance, adding that its donation will go a long way in assisting the students and saving parents lots of money.
