The Digicel Kickstart programme, which gives young footballers a chance to nurture and hone their skills, is giving Jervel Tobierre and Nyrone Winter an opportunity of a lifetime – to represent St. Lucia at the Digicel Kickstart Experience in Manchester, England.
While in Manchester, the boys will undergo a series of intense training, observations and seminars as well as a comprehensive assessment of the players’ physical, mental and psychological strengths.
The week-long itinerary includes sessions on nutrition, online development from the football squad, performance testing, performance analysis and virtual reality sessions in addition to interactions with the media.
Jervel Tobierre, who hails from the tranquil community of Desruisseaux, spoke of his preparation thus far for Manchester.
“The programme has taught me a number of things to help improve my game. Through strength training at the gym, I have increased my overall body strength and I’ve also improved mentally through my club coach and mentor, Callus Moncherry, who has structured my training schedule to have me in peak condition in Manchester,” Tobierre said.
Speaking about his preparation for this amazing opportunity, Nyrone Winter said: “After returning from Jamaica, I won Sportsman of the Year and Footballer of the Year in my graduating class and can honestly say the Digicel Kickstart programme played a major role. With the support of my family and training with the St. Lucia national coaches, I will be ready for Manchester both physically and mentally. I can’t wait.”
Digicel St. Lucia Marketing and Communications Executive, Louise Victor, said: “This is undoubtedly a big deal for the programme, the kids and St. Lucia. From the onset during our local clinics, Jervel and Nyrone demonstrated great poise and overall maturity and now it’s paying dividends. Many thanks to Manchester City FC for the opportunity – the boys are taking full advantage of it.”
