FOLLOWING the successful staging of the Goodwill Swim Championships held here recently, the Rodney Heights Aquatic Centre will again host another competitive swim meet in two weeks’ time.
The Sea Jays Swim Club, alongside its title sponsor Capri-Sun, will host the Capri-Sun Short Course National Swim Championship from Friday, October 21 to Sunday, October 23. The event will serve as a qualifying meet for a team of 34 swimmers to represent Saint Lucia in the OECS swim meet scheduled for Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in November.
Capri-Sun, through their agents in Saint Lucia, Massy Stores Saint Lucia Limited, has been a loyal sponsor of the national swimming trials, this year being the 17th anniversary of the meet.
With preparation well on its way, Sea Jays Swim Club and Capri-Sun are extremely excited in hosting the meet which expects to see well over 140 swimmers from the various clubs compete at the highest level. Swimmers will be competing in all age groups: from 8 and under to 18 and over.
The competing clubs include Sharks, Southern Flying Fish, Lightning, Sports Academy, Racers and Sea Jays.
The likes of Naima Hazell, Naekeisha Louis, Terrel Monplaisir, Katie Kyle, Veronica Brown, Jamaar Archibald, Jayhan Odlum-Smith, Maya Hilaire, D’Andre Blanchard and Sunshine Mauricette will be in the thick of things as they seek to impress the SLASA Technical Committee for final selection.
The RHAC will serve as the home of the meet with the following schedule: Friday, October 21 – opening ceremony 5:30 p.m. Day 1 Finals – start time 6:00 p.m. Saturday, October 22 – Day 2 Finals – start time 9:15 a.m. and Sunday, October 23 – Day 3 Finals – start time 9:15 a.m.
On completion of the meet, the Technical Committee of the Saint Lucia Amateur Swimming Association will review the results and select the OECS swim team which is expected to rival Antigua and Barbuda, Grenada, Martinique and host St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
