HUNDREDS of football fans are expected to take in the excitement when play resumes in the Blackheart/Saint Lucia Football Association knockout football tournament today in the wake of Tropical Storm Matthew.
According to the organizers, Blackheart Productions, they will present what is called “Football Saturday in Full Effect”.
‘Football Saturday’ will see the culmination of two matches in the quarterfinals stage which will be held at Phillip Marcellin Ground in Vieux Fort.
From 6:00 p.m., in what promises to be an epic contest between two past champions, three-time champions Mabouya Valley will take on 2013 champions Gros Islet.
From 8:00 p.m., fans can expect fireworks as defending champions Micoud with their crowd support behind them do battle against a young and fiery home team, Vieux Fort South.
Based on the standard of play thus far, both teams have a cadre of players who can turn on the heat at any moment of regulation time as their strikers intend to keep the goalkeepers pretty busy between the uprights.
The defending champions had a hard fought 1-0 win over the Saint Lucia Football Association Under-20 while Vieux Fort South defeated South Castries 4-0 with the first hat trick coming from the boots of Antonio Joseph (Vieux Fort South).
Meanwhile, former champions Canaries and first-time semifinal round berth, Marchand, have their tickets for the semifinals stage of the tournament; they await the winners of the aforementioned fixtures.
The semifinals will be held next weekend at a venue to be announced by the organizers.
