SAINT LUCIA’S Prime Minister Allen M. Chastanet has underscored his intention to report to the nation regularly, whenever he represents the interest of the country overseas.
“The government regards reporting back to the people as part of our national duty” he commented, “we take it seriously; so they can expect to hear from me while off island, of course using the available technology”.
Chastanet made the commitment to keep the public informed ahead of his current trip to Asia from August 17 to 26. He is accompanied by Minister in the Ministry of External Affairs Sarah Flood Beaubrun and Chairman of Invest Saint Lucia Mr. Pinkley Francis.
The Prime Minister is travelling to the People’s Republic of China at the invitation of major investor and Chairman of Desert Star Holdings Limited Mr. Teo Ah Khing. While in China the Prime Minister will visit a number of the company’s investments. He said he also welcomes the opportunity to confirm or dispel first hand, some speculation surrounding the company’s track record.
Desert Star Holdings signed a Framework Agreement with the Government of Saint Lucia in July which may result in an average US$ 2.6 billion investment project titled “Pearl of the Caribbean”. The project is earmarked for Vieux Fort.
Chastanet will also pay a courtesy visit to the Republic of China on (Taiwan). There he will have preliminary meetings with government officials to lay the groundwork for an official state visit later this year by the new St. Lucia Administration. The Prime Minister will also visit with Saint Lucian students and will pay a courtesy call on Saint Lucia’s Embassy in Taiwan. In his absence Dr. Gale T. C. Rigobert will be the acting Prime Minister.
