NATIONAL Optimist Sailing Champion, Guillaume Chevrier, has returned from the 2016 Jeux des Iles, an international multi-sport event held in Majorca, Spain, where he placed 3rd in the Optimist Class in which 6 small island nations were represented.
Laser sailor and brother to Guillaume, Luc Chevrier will be representing St. Lucia on the Junior French Sailing Training Squad in France for the next several months.
Luc departs at the end of June for La Rochelle, France, where he will join his squad to prepare for the Youth Laser World Championships in Ireland next month followed by the French Nationals in August. Luc will return in February 2017 after benefiting from a unique and intensive programme.
St. Lucia’s young sailors are competing all over the world. Optimist sailor Danny Dillon has also over the past few months competed in several European regattas, the most recent being the British Inland Championships where he placed 16th male of 150 participants in the Optimist class. Dillon heads back to Europe to compete in the Optimist World Championships in Portugal next week.
Familiar to the press, St. Lucia’s RIO hopeful, Stephanie Devaux-Lovell, still working towards Rio, has recently headed to Weymouth, England for participation in the ISAF World Laser Cup and then back to our waters for intensive training with visiting Laser sailors form New Zealand, US and Trinidad and Tobago.
