GG, Vieux Fort Mayor for C’da Fund-raiser

Governor General Dame PearletteLouisy and Vieux Fort Mayor Winall Joshua will be heading to Toronto, Canada, later this week to attend the “Caribbean Soiree Extraordinary”, organized by the Saint Lucia Toronto Aid Action Group (STAAG), of which the Governor General is Patron.

This special event to be held on Saturday in Toronto, takes the form of a major fund-raiser which is expected to be attended by hundreds of St. Lucians and other West Indians living in Ontario.

This event is intended to show support and appreciation to several doctors at the Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto, who are involved in, and spearheading, the Sick Kids Caribbean Initiative, a medical programme that is aimed at providing medical assistance to sick children in five Caribbean Islands including Saint Lucia.

The Saint Lucia Toronto Aid Action Group (STAAG) was formed in 2013, with the primary purpose of providing medical and other assistance to Saint Lucian women and children. The Group has contributed to health care on the island by sourcing and donating medical equipment, furniture etc. to medical institutions here, including the Saint Jude and Soufriere hospitals.

The “Caribbean Soiree will be a special black tie event to be held under Dame Pearlette’s patronage. Performing artistes for the night will include GYPSY of Trinidad and Tobago, Barbara Cadet, Deredee Williams and Morgee from Saint Lucia and Clarence “George” Scott from Jamaica.

Both the Governor General and the Vieux Fort Mayor will be attending this activity as special guests of STAAG.
