Boxer Ferrari Impresses In Guyana Tourney

ST. LUCIA’s boxing team returned home over the weekend with three medals after putting in impressive performance in Guyana at the School boys, School girls and Juniors Boxing Tournament that took place at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.

Leading the pack was Captain and Welterweight Nathan Ferrari who won both of his bouts by the knockout route and was named best boxer of the Tri Tournament.

On day 1 – Ferrari forced the referee to call a halt to his fight against Guyana’s Joshua Corbin in the second round and when he faced Jerome Enniss of Jamaica in the final on Saturday evening, he replicated the feat Enniss had secured a points decision win against Guyana’s Quincy Boyce on the opening night to reach the final.

Kareem Boyce lost to Guyanese Christopher Moore by 1 point to pick up the silver medal, but he won his first bout Friday night with an impressive knockout over favourite AkimElcock of Guyana in the third round. Tahj Browne had to settle for his second bronze in his second outing in Guyana.

The trip to Guyana was made possible through the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports.

Meanwhile, the SLBA is finalizing plans for a massive road show in the Mabouya Valley sporting arena on Saturday from 6.00 p.m.
