THE construction of two new three storey classroom blocks to provide accommodation for the Choiseul Secondary School has moved one step closer as the Invitation for Bids has been advertised.
The need for this project arose following the 2007 earthquake, hurricane Tomas and other natural events of the past few years, when damage to blocks B and C at the school caused these buildings to become structurally unsound.
The two new buildings will accommodate 12 classrooms, sick-bay with toilet facilities, Resource room, Technical Drawing room, students’ washrooms, Information Technology lab, Electronic Document Preparation and Management lab, Physics and Chemistry laboratories with Prep room, Music room and Theatre room. The total construction area is approximately 34,330.95 sq. ft.
This project is one of several commenced under the Disaster Vulnerability Reduction Project (DVRP). The DVRP programme is funded by the World Bank, and its objectives are to measurably reduce Saint Lucia’s vulnerability to natural hazards and climate change impacts through urgent risk mitigation measures and by strengthening the island’s capacity to understand and manage disaster risks.
Bidding will be conducted through the National Competitive Bidding procedures as specified in the World Bank’s Guidelines
