THIS past week was a good one for one of St. Lucia’s youth cricketers in St. Vincent and the Grenadines and two of our world ranked high jumpers in Beijing, China.
In this edition The VOICE continues to highlight outstanding sporting individuals as their scintillating and epic performances must not go unnoticed despite the many difficulties and challenges that they may face.
CRICKET: 19 year old right arm off spinner Dornan Edward of Laborie represented St. Lucia at the just concluded Windward Islands Goodwill Senior Cricket Tournament in St.Vincent and the Grenadines. In the game against the third place team Grenada he picked up a career best at that level of 5 wickets for 14 runs to bowl out Grenada for 98 runs in their first innings. In St. Lucias reply he made 24 not out in the rain affected match.
ATHLETICS: 21 year old world ranked outdoor No.8 high jumper Jeanelle Scheper is currently in Beijing, China where she is representing St.Lucia at the International Athletics Federation World Championships. Jeanelle who competed in Group B secured a berth in the grand final scheduled for today from 6:30 a.m; she cleared 1.92 metres with 12 other competitors before the referees made the wise decision not to prolong the contest just to eliminate one woman.
ATHLETICS: 31 year old world ranked outdoor No. 13 high jumper Levern Spencer, like Scheper is currently in Beijing, China. Levern who competed in Group A also secured a spot in the finals, she cleared 1.92 metres and will be in today’s final. What a week for St. Lucia Sports.
