U-15 Cricketers Up Readiness

WITH just six days before the commencement of the Windward Islands Under – 15 cricket tournament here in St. Lucia, the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports continued with the preparation of the National Under-15 Cricket Team with two trial practice matches over the weekend.

On Saturday at the Monchy Playing, the teams were led by Jonathan Khodra and Garvin Serieux. Khodra’s team batting first, was dismissed for 227 in 38 overs, with Khodra himself top scoring with 80, Brandt Jean 51, Dominic Auguste 30 and Qiana Joseph 14.

For Serieux’s team the wicket takers were Keygan Arnold who picked up 6 for 29 in 7 overs, Garvin Serieux 2 for 35 in 7 overs and Stephen Mitchel 2 for 41 in 5 overs.

In reply, Serieux’s team finished on 243 for 8 in 29 overs, with Lee Solomon contributing 44, Xystus Emmanuel 44, Garvin Serieux 32, Keygan Arnold 27 and Stephen Mitchel 17.

Bowling for Khodra’s team, Jonathan Khodra had 3 for 30 in 4 overs.

On Sunday in another practice match, this time at the Gros Islet Playing Field, the teams were led by Windward Under-15 players Kimani Melius and Simeon Gerson. Play was reduced to 31 overs a side match due to a wet wicket as the result of heavy overnight rain.

Melius’ team batting first in difficult conditions, reached 91 for 9 in their allocated 31 overs, with Chaz Cepal making 36.

Bowling for Gerson’s team, Keygan Arnold had 5 for 17 in 7 overs, and JanaiDalsou 3 for 19 in 4 overs.

In Gerson’s team’s turn at the crease, they reached 128 for 3 in their 31 overs with Garvin Serieux remaining on 52 not out, Lee Solomon 32 and Xystus Emmanuel 18.

For Melius’ team the main wicket taker was, Shelton St Rose with 2 for 31 in 7 overs and 1 wicket to Jaden Elibox.

Meanwhile, the final 13 players and four reserves will be announced by the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports shortly. Final official team preparation continues with a camp from tomorrow. During this time, the team will take part in several bonding exercises, match practice, game sense training and net sessions.

St. Lucia are the current Windward Islands Under-15 Cricket Champion.
