The season opener of the KFC National Basketball League (NBL) tips off today (Saturday April 13) at the Beausejour Indoor Facility from 6:00 p.m.

The NBL is a three-month long tournament that will feature the best clubs on the island, namely, defending champions Bonne Terre Blazers, Morne Gladiators, Courts Jets, Soufriere Kings, Basketball for the Future (BFTF), East Coast Academy (ECA), Combined Forces and Combined Schools.

This year, the NBL will be played at three respective venues, namely, Beausejour Indoor Facility, the Vigie Sports Complex and the Soufriere Facility.

The championship trophy will be named after former national player and coach Ricky “Skeky” Estwick – in tribute to a stalwart who had dedicated his time towards playing and nurturing young athletes.

The Saint Lucia Basketball Federation (SLBF) acknowledges the support of all its sponsors for making this year’s tournament possible. The list includes, Title sponsor KFC, ExelSign Limited, The Computer Store, Timeout Entertainment, Caribbean Metals Ltd, Top Ranking Electrical, FLOW, Emagine Solutions, LUCELEC, PCD, Mackeson, Lucozade, Villa Beach Cottages, Travel and Leisure Centre, Quick Delivery, Blue Waters, Tiles Plus and the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports.

Today’s event begins with an opening ceremony followed by a double-header, featuring defending champions Bonne Terre Blazers vs Soufriere Kings in Game 1, and Morne Gladiators vs Courts Jets in Game 2.

The SLBF urges all basketball enthusiasts, past and present players to come support and enjoy the entertainment of opening night.
