KFC B-Ball Action on at VMPSC and BIF

Young players in training for the upcoming schools’ tournament

Basketball action continued in the KFC National League the past weekend with matches at the Vigie Multi-Purpose Sports Complex (VMPSC) and the Beausejour Indoor Facility (BIF).

On Wednesday, at the VMPSC, Game 1 of the doubleheader encounter between Soufriere Kings and Courts Jets was suspended at the end of the first half due to a heavy downpour that ended the night’s proceedings. Soufriere Kings were cruising at the interval leading by 20 points at the half 46 – 26 over Courts Jets.

The second encounter between Basketball For The Future (BFTF) Seniors versus defending champions Bonne Terre Blazers, a highly anticipated fixture of this year’s tournament was also canceled due to the inclement weather.

Last Saturday (April 20), at the BIF, the Morne Gladiators defeated the Combined Schools team 74 – 31. The player of the game was Tim Baptiste with 16 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 steals.

Game 2 – was a close encounter between East Coast Academy (ECA) and BFTF Juniors, with BFTF Juniors prevailing by three points over ECA 59 – 56.

BFTF Juniors required a bucket late from Player of the Game Cletuson Leon with six seconds to go which sealed the win for his club.

Windwards Volleyball

Meanwhile, in other updates, the Saint Lucia mens team for the Windward Islands Schools Volleyball tournament hopes to improve on it’s last-place finish (from last year) in this year’s tournament.

A total of 20 players commenced training this week at the Vigie Multi-Purpose Sports Complex (VMPSC) in advance for the tournament that is scheduled to be held in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) in July/ August.

Head Coach Joseph Clercent said: “On arrival at the VMPSC, these young players have been putting in 100 percent effort in training for the competition and hopefully will keep that intensity until the final eight players get selected in July.” – R.A.
