Explosive Action Builds Up in SPFL

THIS season’s inaugural Semi-Pro Football League (SPFL) continued last weekend, with some block buster action at the Dennery Playing Field, over three days.

In a Tier II encounter, last Friday, Desruisseaux and Choiseul played to a 2-all draw. Ahmed Francis gave Desruisseaux the lead with a 31’ goal, but Choiseul levelled the score with an equalizer from Jules Francis in the 63’.

Choiseul went on take the advantage through Darcel Francis’ conversion in the 70’, but Desruisseaux struck back in the 81’ through Joseph Mangal.
In a Tier I match, Micoud and Mon Repos played to a 1-1 draw.

Micoud took the lead through Sherquain Mahy in the 34’, but Mon Repos fought back to gain an equalizer with Jamil St Paul scoring in the 66’.

In a Tier II fixture last Saturday, eastern coast rivals Dennery and Mabouya Valley clashed, but it was Dennery that emerged on top with a clinical 2-nil victory.

Garvin Recwe put Dennery ahead in the 34’, and Josh Hunte scored a magnificent goal in the 42’ from a distance out of the box, with a right foot shot that rifled into the upper bars, for what can be considered as one of the ‘Goals of the Season’, so far.

Tough action in SPFL game

In more soccer action on Sunday, in a Tier I1 game, Vieux Fort South provided glimpses of their goal-scoring prowess as they beat Marchand 4-2 in a pulsating and intense affair.

Though the city lads drew first blood early in the game, with Ferad Placide netting in the 2’, V Fort South countered with an equalizer from Obufami Poyotte in the 7’.

V Fort South then took the lead with two more goals as Shawn Alfred scored in the 17’ and then Moses Henry in the 51’. Marchand began to mount their counter-attack and got a goal from Jervis Joseph in the 75’, but their run was cut short soon afterwards as Poyotte ended with a brace scoring again in the 76’.

In Tier I action on Sunday, Central Castries registered a hard fought 2-1 win over Canaries.

Steven Octave gave Canaries the lead with a 60’ goal, but C Castries struck back with two decisive goals.

Crakani Saltibus scored in the 65’ and Lascay Alexander in the 83’ for a commendable victory.

Meanwhile, the SPFL action returns to the Dennery playing field this weekend for more explosive play. – R.A.
