Hon. Dr. Gale Rigobert, Minister for Education, Innovation, Gender Relations, and Sustainable Development, has extended congratulations to fourteen Form 5 students of the Saint Lucia Sports Academy. These students on Monday received their certificates for completing the Caribbean Coaching Certification Program.
The Saint Lucia Sports Academy opened its doors in 2019 as the first and only boarding school on the island where students concentrate on sporting disciplines, including cricket, football, track and field, and academics. Since then, the school has made significant strides in both academia and sports. Students excelled last year at the CSEC exams, not just in Physical Education, where they registered a high pass rate, but also in other subject areas.
“After being around for just about two years, today we celebrate with the Saint Lucia Sports academy yet another major achievement. To the students, I say well done and I am pleased with what you have achieved,” Dr. Rigobert said Monday.
“This milestone is very important for the Saint Lucia Sports Academy and the Ministry of Education because it speaks to the foundation that we have laid out for the school, in providing students with options in sporting careers on and off the field. Besides the academic subjects, students are trained to become well rounded athletes and also receive training in areas such as coaching and journalism for example, which gives them more career options,” Dr. Rigobert explained.
“So today I want to congratulate the students, and to again say how very proud we are of all of you, knowing that you will be leaving this wonderful institution with a foundational theory certification in coaching, that can be utilized anywhere you choose to go in the sporting arena,” the Minister said.
Dr. Rigobert thanked her PS Michelle Charles, the Principal of the Saint Lucia Sports Academy Mrs. Delia Alcindor Charles, Andy Bhel Assistant Programme Director and Victor Cornibert the coaching director, and all the other coaches and teachers at the Saint Lucia Sports Academy, for their dedication in helping the school live out the vision as set out by the Ministry of Education.
The Caribbean Coaching Certification Programme came to the Saint Lucia Sports Academy through the efforts of the Saint Lucia Olympic Committee Inc. The fourteen Form 5 students who completed the Certification Programme received their certificates on Monday morning at a short ceremony held at the school in Gros Islet.
