St. Lucia in NACRA Tourney Winless
ST. LUCIA went down to a determined St.Vincent and the Grenadines team in front of a small, but supportive crowd at the Mindoo Phillip Park this past weekend in the North America and Caribbean Rugby Association Men’s 15 tournament.
The Vincentians took an early 13 – 0 lead off a pair of tries from outside centre Anzio Lewis, with penalties added from scrum-half George Kruger in the 40th minute of play and second row Kimran Barnum closing it out in the 80th minute with a shot to make the final score 16 – 8.
St. Vincent and the Grenadines are now on top of the South Zone with a 1-1 record and 4 points with a pair of bonus points in their two matches. St. Lucia are still in search for a win in the compQetition and are currently in fourth place with zero points. Their final match against Curacao can best be described as one to play for pride.
Meanwhile, coach / player of the losing St.Lucia team Colvis Samuels spoke to the Voice after the loss to SVG. He said; You don’t base yourself on past performance. The game is played on the day. The St.Vincent and the Grenadines team did all that was necessary to get a win.
“At the half time whistle the score was 13 – 0. For St.Lucia generally that was not a problem, but we were unable to get out from the hole and by all indications the St.Vincent and the Grenadines team certainly looked better prepared. Some of our players we expected to do well did not really come through for us”.
Samuels added: “We have been trying different players and two of our key players could not be here. Apart from that we still had the artillery to take them down. I don’t think we are together enough and in rugby you have to be together on the day. We are not playing as cohesively as compared to last year and in a way that cost us.
