THE Augier Combined School will be hosting its first-ever Calypso Festival tomorrow at the school from 2.00 p.m.
The school will be arguably the first primary school in the south of the island to host its own Calypso Festival. After months of planning and training, seven student performers selected from Grade 3 to Grade 6 and a special group rendition of a local calypso by the Grade 2 students.
The five female and two male individual student calypsonians who will be on stage are Lady Knightingale, Skyler, Sabrina, Ajani, Delson, Jady and CJ.
The musical accompaniment will be provided by the Vieux Fort Comprehensive Secondary School, Students Band with support from a Royal St. Lucia Police Band brass section.
The songs to be performed are all original calypso compositions and range from humorous to social commentary. The songs were composed as classroom projects among the teachers and students and were all musically arranged by Tony Wilkinson, the Music Teacher at the school and coordinator of the event.
There will be lots of side attractions, including guest performances by very popular St. Lucian calypsonians, soca artistes and stilt walkers. The MC for the show will be female soca artist, Sergie.
The event promises to be one of a kind and the public is invited to attend in large numbers. Admission is $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for children.
The school wishes to thank everyone who has assisted with the planning of this event.
