THE national swim team for the 26th Organization of Eastern Caribbean States Championships in St Vincent and the Grenadines from November 10 to 13 has been announced.
The participating countries are – Antigua and Barbuda, Grenada, and Martinique, Saint Lucia and host Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Grenada are the defending champions.
This year the team will be without Runako and Jaysi Daniel and 2016 Olympian Jordan Augier who are studying overseas. Leading the team will be male and female junior swimmers TerellMonplaisir and Katie Kyle.
The full squad reads: 8 and Under Boys – TherronHerelle, Antoine Destang, Karic Charles; 8 & U Girls Jasmine Steide, Zoe Bernard. 9 -10 Boys – D’ Andre Blanchard, Nathan Vigier; 9 – 10 Girls Naima Hazell, JorjaMederickNaekeisha Louis, Anya Hilaire; 11 – 12 Boys – Allandre Cross, Ziv Reynolds, Jakob Harrison, Akim Ernest; 11 – 12 Girls – Mikaili Charlemagne, Shalini Joseph, Marisa Louisy.
In the 13-14 Boys – TerellMonplaisir, JayhanOdlum, Jamarr Archibald, Devin Boodha, 13-14 Girls – Katie Kyle , Eden Crick, Mya Peter, Veronica Brown. 15 -17 Boys – Omar Alexander, Dristan Mauricette, Kyle Ernest; 15-17 Girls – Mikaela Casimir, Abigail Brown, Tracey Moyston; 18 & Over male – David Mayers, 18 and over ladies – Vanessa Eugene.
The team will we be under the watchful eyes of Head Coach Brian Charles, Assistant Coach Andy Edward and Team Manager EldrisMauricette.
According to SLASA Technical Committee, two national qualifying meets were held recently to select the open water and pool competitors. The 2016 Peterkin Sports and Fitness Academy (PSFA) Fall Open Water Swim took place at Reduit Beach on October 16. Only one swimmer met the selection standards: Veronica Brown. This event was followed by the Capri Sun Swim Meet, organized by Sea Jays Legends Swim Club and held at the Rodney Heights Aquatic Centre last weekend. .
