FACES of Cancer St. Lucia is a non- governmental Organization started by a breast cancer survivor in 2009, who saw the need for a cancer support group, to assist patients going through this difficult journey, along with their family and friends.
Faces of Cancer. We welcomes all types of cancer patients. We welcome volunteers, survivors, caregivers and patients. Cancer is no longer a death sentence and so we seek to educate and encourage survivors along their journey.
In 2011 Faces of Cancer St. Lucia, created a second group within the banana belt. Faces of Cancer Mabouya Valley which now serves the Dennery area. Our goal is to reach areas of high cancer fatalities and offer our services as well as encourage screening , early detection and debunk the myths associated with cancer.
Members of the public are welcome to join the group, we do not discriminate against age, race, religious or political belief. All services offered to survivors within the group, are free of charge including social events. For Faces of Cancer, a survivor is anyone diagnosed with cancer, recognizing that before a diagnosis a patient has been surviving cancer unknowingly.
When the group started in 2009 our objective was to cater to group members in areas of survivorship and overall wellness, as well as assisting with household chores which would be a challenge whilst going through treatment.
Faces of Cancer St. Lucia, has now increased our objectives to include, educating the St. Lucian public about the different types of cancers affecting St. Lucians. This month we bring awareness to primary and secondary school children, workplaces, communities and churches.
We have embarked on an annual Breast health fair offering free breast exams and mammograms to unemployed and underemployed women, and are engaged in a series of fund-raising events, awareness drives, and health fairs. This year ,we hosted breast health fairs in three communities, Castries, Anse-la-Raye and Vieux Fort, where we were able to provide a number of women with mammograms, ultrasounds and clinical breast exams.
We will be closing off Breast Cancer Awareness month 2016 with a Dinner and Dance Fundraiser at Sandals Halcyon on Saturday October 29 at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are available at our offices at Tapion Reef or by calling us at 456-5101 and we would deliver to you.
