SHARKS Swim Club has started the 2016 swimming rivalry on a positive note. The club won a number of races on Sunday at the Rodney Height Aquatic Centre when the St. Lucia Amateur Swimming Association hosted its first in a series of one day open meets for the year.
The one day meet was sanctioned by the St. Lucia Amateur Swimming Association in accordance to FINA rules.
Eighty eight swimmers representing five of eight swim clubs on the island took to the water with the hope of improving their times.
The top scoring swimmers in each age group were as follows :8 and Under Girls – 1st Place Allie Capasso (Sharks Swim Club), 2nd Place Jasmine Stiede (Sharks Swim Club), 3rd Place Zoe Bernard (Lightning Aquatics Swim Club); 8 and Under Boys – 1st Place Therron Herelle (Racers Swim Club), 2nd Antoine Destang (Sharks) , 3rd Karic Charles (Lightning Aquatics).
In the 9 – 10 Girls – 1st Jorja Mederick (Racers) , 2nd Naekeisha Louis (Lightning Aquatics), 3rd Tammy Pultie (Sharks), 9 – 10 Boys – 1st D’Andre Blanchard (Sea Jays) , 2nd Kyai Taylor (Sharks) , 3rd Brandon Eugene (Racers) . 11 – 12 Girls – 1st Mikaili Charlemagne (Unattached), 2nd Kiana Casimir (Sharks) , 2nd Sunshine Mauricette (Sea Jays ). 11 – 12 Boys – 1st Matheo Capasso Sharks Swim Club, 2nd Jakob Harrison (Sharks) , 3rd Kenai d’Auvergne (Racers).13 – 14 Girls – 1st Katie Kyle (Sharks) , 2nd Mya Eugene (Racers) , 3rd Veronica Brown Sea Jays Swim Club. 13 – 14 Boys – 1st Terrel Monplaisir (Sea Jays) , 2nd Jayhan Odlum-Smith (Sea Jays) , 3rd Nyeem Rosemond (Sharks) , St. Lucia. 15 and Over Girls – 1st Abbie Pultie (Sharks) , 2nd Mikaela Casimir (Sharks) , 3rd Abigail Brown (Sea Jays) . 15 and Over Boys – 1st Omar Alexander (Racers) , 2nd Nicholas Mc Lennon (Racers) , 3rd Daron Mauricette (Sharks).
According to SLASA Public Relations Officer Sue Monplaisir, the local association looks forward to giving the swimmers more opportunities in the very near future to compete locally with the ultimate goal of qualifying to compete regionally and internationally.
Meanwhile, with St.Lucia hosting the Goodwill Swimming Championship in August a Logo competition is ongoing amongst all local swimmers affiliated to SLASA. The dead line date for entries is Friday January 29.
