ON the heels of problems that have surfaced at the Castries Comprehensive Secondary School recently resulting in protest action by teachers over conditions there, the CCSS Class of 79 Plus stages a major fund raising ball tomorrow in aid of the school.

The ball at the Indies Night Club under the patronage of the CCSS’ first female principal, Ms. Lawrence Laurent, a former legislator is to raise funds to restore the physical image of the school.

A spokesperson for the organizers said that interest in the fund raising venture for the CCSS was gaining support both from past students in St Lucia and those who had migrated overseas.

A special account No. 6002287 has been opened at the 1`st National Bank of St Lucia to which persons are being asked to contribute in aid of huts renovation project.

Last week, the spokesperson for the Class of 79 Plus lamented the deterioration that had taken place at the school which had necessitated a shutdown of the premises by the Ministry of Education for several days last week while workmen attempted to restore some of the most urgent repairs.

She reported that the school was in a badly dilapidated condition with a number of clssrooms in the science block having to be abandoned; the entire school needed to be rewired and the huts that were currently being used to hold classes daily were in “an unbelievably unsound condition yet were the best places to hold classes.”

A VOICE reporter who visited the school last week when repairs were underway, reported falling concrete from ceilings, “bleeding” of the concrete roof, black mould in the science block, termite infestation, leakages and general wear and tear.
