The Water & Sewerage Company Inc. (WASCO) says it’s accelerated water quality testing across all systems to ensure that safe water protocols remain firmly in place and, wherever possible, strengthened, as Saint Lucia continues to face water supply challenges associated with the ongoing El Niño weather conditions.
Through rigorous monitoring and enhanced testing, “every drop delivered is held to the highest standards of safety and reliability,” WASCO said in a statement.
Moreover, WASCO added, through close collaboration with the WRMA, Ministry of Environmental Health, and regional and international partners, it remains fully aligned with international best practices, maintaining one-hundred percent compliance with World Health Organization (WHO) standards.
“While our teams work around the clock to safeguard water quality through enhanced testing, trucking, and strategic system management, customers are advised to store water safely and use reserves sparingly,” WASCO said.
They also encouraged customers to check their internal plumbing systems and contact the company’s Control Room, if they experience any water quality concerns. “Reporting these issues allows our teams to investigate and determine whether the matter is localized to the property and provide appropriate guidance or solutions.”
“In some cases, water quality concerns may be associated with faulty non-return valves, back siphonage, or other internal plumbing conditions. These issues can cause water from household storage tanks or internal reticulation systems to circulate back within the property’s plumbing during periods of reduced pressure,” noted WASCO.
The company says it is not only committed to keeping water flowing, but to ensuring that every measure it takes, whether through accelerated testing, trucking, or valving, is rooted in transparency, accountability, and resilience. “Our actions are guided by a duty to protect public health, strengthen infrastructure, and secure Saint Lucia’s water future, particularly in the face of climate and weather challenges.”
Customers are encouraged to contact the Control Room via telephone: 482-0052 (north) or 482-0051 (south) to report a break, leak, fault, supply reduction or any water quality concerns.
