Saint Lucia is committed to enhancing networking standards for employers and employees to create a more conducive and productive environment for addressing industrial relations issues.

The foundation of stronger workplace relations lies in knowledge, communication, and meaningful dialogue.

This was the focus of the Department of Labour’s recent engagement with shop stewards from the National Workers Union (NWU) during the Union’s 2026 Industrial Forum, held earlier this month at the John Burke King Industrial Academy in Sans Souci, Castries.

Deputy Labour Commissioner Nicolai Lansiquot delivered a presentation titled “Industrial Conciliation Roles and Responsibilities within the Department of Labour,” offering participants valuable insights into the conciliation process and the Department’s pivotal role in helping employers and workers constructively address workplace disputes.

Lansiquot stressed the importance of understanding the available processes for both workers and employers to prevent disagreements from escalating.

“Industrial relations work best when there is a clear understanding of rights, responsibilities, and the mechanisms for resolving disputes. Our role is not merely to react when conflicts arise but to facilitate dialogue and encourage parties to discover constructive solutions,” Lansiquot noted.

The industrial relations official reaffirmed the Department of Labour’s commitment to strengthening industrial relations through education, engagement, and effective dispute resolution, while promoting workplaces where concerns can be addressed through informed and respectful dialogue.
