The Folk Research Centre (FRC), in collaboration with the Government of Saint Lucia and the Events Company of Saint Lucia Limited (ECSL), will officially launch Kwéyòl Heritage Month 2026 on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at the Laborie Market.
The launch, which takes place from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., will mark the beginning of a month-long celebration of Saint Lucia’s Kwéyòl language, culture and heritage under the theme “Kwéyòl-la Sé Sa Nou Tout.” (Kwéyòl Belongs to All of Us)
The theme speaks to the shared ownership and importance of Kwéyòl as an integral part of Saint Lucia’s cultural identity. Throughout the month, communities and cultural practitioners will have opportunities to celebrate and showcase the language, traditions and creative expressions that continue to shape Saint Lucian life.
The official launch at the Laborie Market will feature an evening of cultural entertainment, including dance, folk music and other expressions of Saint Lucia’s vibrant cultural heritage. The event will bring together cultural practitioners, community representatives, public officials and members of the wider public to celebrate the beginning of this important month of cultural activities.
The Folk Research Centre has continued to champion the preservation, promotion and development of Saint Lucia’s Kwéyòl language and cultural heritage. Kwéyòl Heritage Month provides an opportunity for communities across the island to celebrate these traditions while encouraging greater appreciation and participation in their continued transmission to future generations.
The FRC has invited the public to join in the official launch and to participate in the activities planned throughout Kwéyòl Heritage Month 2026.
