Not many people accept their lack of understanding or knowledge and freely broadcast it to the world, but I find myself having difficulty accepting what is now common practice or accepted behavior.
Of late, there are plenty of issues that I think should be discussed or accepted as fact that seem to be disputed, or not seen as relevant.
Let’s start with the situation of constituency realignment.
In an age when everyone is seeking governmental support for everything, why then is there a delay in splitting Gros Islet into three or four parts based on its population growth, to practically assist more people, rather that one minister having to have the burden of dealing with the existing problem?
The government suggests healthcare should be a number-one concern and to deal with these issues there should be upgrades to facilities and recruitment of more employees, to assist in that regard. Yet you hear that only 10% of medical bills are paid by all who benefit, as every other bill seems more important, resulting in people owing $20 Million to the OKEU hospital.
I also have difficulty understanding that in a country where meat consumption is a natural dietary habit, a meat processing plant could have been built and then dismantled and almost discarded with people left to buy these same meats that are imported. And yet we talk about our growing import bill…
The prime minister suggested that we as a people should consider planting more of what we eat and eat more of what we grow, yet, even the idea of a home garden seems to be a hard pill to swallow.
He further suggested that we should consider Alternative Energy sources because of the worldwide energy crisis as it relates to fossil fuels, yet people would rather blame him than see sense in his suggestion, even though he’s been subsidizing fuel and cooking gas prices since he took office in 2021.
The same suggestion is made by the PM about Harvesting Water, but the usual defiance exists everywhere, people choosing not to adjust.
Baby-making seems to be on a downward slope, so, to encourage a higher birth rate the government is offering one thousand dollars to assist in that regard, but some people want the government to pay mothers enough money to grow the children for life.
All that baffles me and make me wonder if I am really dumb, or the only one who sees logic in some of the recommendations.
Government employs more police and more people for everything else, but will not employ extra-curricular teachers within the school system to assist in sporting and creative areas and we expect parents to bear that additional cost.
There is more training and more job opportunity, more sources of finance for everyone, but most people still claim there is no work and nothing is being done to assist in that regard.
Well folks, I must be really dumb to have a contrary point of view.
I hear also that every Tom, Dick and Harry wants a government contract, so it is not the general public that should support themselves, but again, it’s the government that should come to their rescue – and again, that makes me wonder if the state has unlimited funds, if the government is an national ATM, or whether we understand but just insist on being purely vicious, just to be always demanding.
As I said before, I am made to feel I must have been born dumb, to see things differently.
I recently spoke with a politician who is of the view that people beg them daily and want support for everything and think that because politics is their profession they have the means and unlimited cash to help at all times.
Our own money is for having fun, eating and drinking, spending on carnival costumes, buying fancy cars — and begging the government for all other needs, including when school reopens annually.
They have no consideration for all the other educational inputs presently made available by the same government.
Wow, I am almost convinced I am just too-dumb to understand that mentality, but I’m also sure that’s not the case because there are also those who feel and think like me, only preferring to suffer in silence.
But I’ll keep on calling the truth like I see it – and let the chips fall where they may because neither my mother, nor my father, were mad or dumb.
Meanwhile, let’s see how far the majority who think that government is simply ‘a bwa’ will get with this rotten mentality.
