THE St. Lucia Cycling Association in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports will stage the second annual National Day / Schools Cycling Championship around the City Circuit Saturday.
The championship is expected to see a number of young and aspiring cyclists participating in five different age categories.
President of the St.Lucia Cycling Association Cyril Mangal said, there has been no final word from the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports representative Clivus Jules as to the number of schools that will take part, but one can rest assured based on last year’s number the SLCA expected to see an increase in participation this time around.
According to Mangal the showpiece will commence from 9.30 a.m. with a bike check and that will be followed by the 10 and under 100 metre time trial, Mountain bike 1 lap and BMX mass start 100m
Then it will be the turn of the 11 to 12 Division in the BMX 100 metres time Trial, Road bike Time Trial, 11.40am MTB 2 laps 11.55am BMX 150m Mass start and Road Bike 2 laps
There will be a break from 12.30 p.m. to 1.00 p.m. before the action resumes with the 13 to 14 Division BMX 100 metres time Trial, Road Time Trial 700 metres, MTB 3 laps, 2.00pm BMX 150 metres Mass start and Road Bike 5 laps.
This will be followed by the 15 to 16 Division – BMX 150 metres Mass start, Road bike Time Trial 700 metres, MTB 5 laps and 3.15 pm Road Bikes 10 laps.
The curtain will come down at with the 17 to 18 Division BMX 150 metres Mass start, Road Bike Time Trial, MTB 5 laps and Road Bike 12 laps.
