Minister for Housing, Local Government and Urban Renewal, Richard Frederick, has begun his annual vacation leave until August 27, prompting the temporary reassignment of his ministerial responsibilities to two Cabinet colleagues.
The Office of the Prime Minister {OPM}advised of his leave in a statement issued Friday, July 24, 2026.
In Frederick’s absence, Minister for Infrastructure, Ports Services and Energy, Shawn Edward will oversee the portfolios of Housing and Urban Renewal. Additionally, Senior Minister and Minister for Public Service, Transport, Information and Utilities Regulation Stephenson King has been assigned responsibility for Local Government in the interim.
These temporary assignments, as stated by the Office of the Prime Minister, “are in keeping with the Government’s established practice of ensuring continuity in the administration of ministerial responsibilities whenever ministers proceed on annual vacation leave.”
Following expressions of gratitude to “the public for its understanding” the Government further shared that it “remains committed to the uninterrupted delivery of services throughout this period,”
The OPM release made no mention of the police probe into allegations against Frederick and the status of the investigation.
