On Sunday, May 24, the highly anticipated SLFA Inc. Under-14 Boys District League football competition commenced with impressive performances from Micoud and Babonneau.
Despite challenging weather conditions, Micoud launched its campaign with a dominant 3-0 victory over Choiseul at the Technical Centre in Grande Riviere, Dennery. The goals were scored by Chavez Lawrence in the 16th minute, an own goal from Christus Ellivique in the 54th minute, and Lervin Joseph in the 59th minute.
At the Corinth Playing Field, Babonneau showcased their strength with a convincing 7-2 win over Marchand, leading 3-0 at halftime. The standout player was Leshaun Gordon, who netted a hat-trick, scoring in the 30th, 42nd, and 50th minutes.
Additional goals for Babonneau came from Vincy Cadasse in the 22nd minute, Jewayne St. Edward via a penalty in the 38th minute, Josh Henry in the 54th minute, and an own goal from Rojon Adophe Trent Theodore in the 76th minute.
Marchand’s goals were scored by Kyle St. Valle (own goal) in the 30th minute and Kimani Alfred in the 77th minute.
In an exciting final match of the day, Castries Central and Gros Islet played to a thrilling 2-2 draw. Gros Islet led at halftime with a 1-0 advantage, thanks to Isaije Auberto’s goal in the 3rd minute of added time, followed by a goal from Rylan Joseph in the 55th minute.
Castries responded with goals from Navalon in the 65th minute and Bernard Ajani Walker in the 78th minute.
In a notable absentee match, Canaries did not show up for their encounter against Roseau Valley. The season is off to an exciting start, and fans can look forward to more thrilling matches in the coming weeks.
