The St. Lucia Labour Party (SLP) has taken exception to what they say was a “dangerous smear on Saint Lucia’s electoral process” by the nation’s Leader of the Opposition.
The SLP says it condemns in the strongest possible terms what they describe as irresponsible, reckless, and deeply damaging comments made by Opposition Leader Hon. Allen Chastanet, when he reportedly suggested that the 2025 General Elections was “influenced” through “electoral list manipulation”, “significant financial influences”, and other unnamed forces.“These should not be the words of a responsible national leader” a release from the SLP read.

“Mr. Chastanet’s remarks” the release highlighted, “amount to an unjustified smear against the Electoral Commission, the Electoral Department, and the many Saint Lucians who worked long hours to ensure a peaceful, orderly, and credible election. The release also pointed to The CARICOM Election Observation Mission report which explicitly said voters were able to exercise their franchise in a “peaceful, orderly and transparent manner” and that the results would have reflected the will of the people and therefore should be accepted and respected by all parties.
The SLP also mention the Organization of American States (OAS) mission who also placed their seal of approval on activities on December 1st, 2025, suggesting that election day was conducted orderly, peacefully, and professionally.
The SLP has call on Mr. Chastanet to hand over any evidence in his possession to the “competent authorities immediately” including the Electoral Commission, the courts, and any relevant regional or international body. The SLP contend that the absence of any tangible evidence should lead the Opposition Leader to cease “poisoning the public space with disinformation.”
As Leader of the Opposition, the SLP release contends, holds a “constitutional office that demands maturity, discipline and respect for democratic institutions.” It went on to insist that he should “behave in a manner befitting that office.”
The official results of the December 1st, 2025, General Elections published by the Saint Lucia Electoral Department revealed that The SLP won 14 seats, the UWP won 1 (Micoud South), and 2 independents won the remaining two seats, Castries Central and Castries North, respectively.
