This weekend, the island’s future athletic stars will take center stage at the CARIFTA Trials, as the St. Lucia Athletics Association (SLAA) hosts the 2026 National Juniors Track and Field Championship. The event will take place on Saturday, March 14, and Sunday, March 15, starting at 10:00 a.m. daily at the Soufriere Mini Stadium.
This highly anticipated championship brings together Saint Lucia’s most promising junior athletes, who will compete for the opportunity to represent the island at the prestigious 2026 CARIFTA Games, scheduled for April 4-6, 2026, in Grenada.
Over the two-day event, top athletes from across the island will participate in a full program of track and field events, including sprints, middle-distance races, hurdles, relays, and jumps.
Competitors will strive to meet qualifying standards to secure their place on the national team, making it one of the most exciting events on the national athletics calendar.
SLAA President, Dora Henry, emphasized that the championships serve as a vital platform for identifying and nurturing Saint Lucia’s next generation of athletic talent. “The National Juniors Championship is more than just a competition; it represents a crucial launching pad for our young athletes as they transition from the national stage to the regional spotlight,” Henry stated.
“The CARIFTA Games are the Caribbean’s premier junior athletics event, and this championship offers our athletes the chance to showcase their talent, resilience, and readiness to proudly represent Saint Lucia on one of the region’s most esteemed platforms,” she added.
The Association also extends its gratitude to the technical officials, volunteers, clubs, and partners who continuously support the development of athletics in Saint Lucia and who will play a significant role in the successful hosting of this national event.
