Children from the First Steps Children Centre in the Hewanorra Orchards in Vieux-Fort, recently participated in a series of La Marguerite activities that combined creativity, fine motor skills development and learning concepts. These activities showcased the beauty of our Creole culture and promoted cultural appreciation.

During the session, the children explored their artistic side by painting using La Marguerite colors and engaged in pasting activities that reinforced color recognition and counting skills. Some participants even had the opportunity to learn to count in Creole, introducing them to a new language.

The excitement continued with a lively parade led by the king and queen, promoting teamwork and enthusiasm among the children. Story time and songs about the flower further enriched the experience, connecting the activities to storytelling and cultural traditions.

These La Marguerite activities demonstrated a commitment to providing an interactive learning experience, that foster creativity, cultural appreciation and foundational learning skills, in a fun and supportive environment for the children.

According to the administrator of the centre, Mrs. Scholastique Elcock, the parents really supported the event.

“The event went down very well. The partnership between the parents and the teachers was great. They parents did a great job,” she said.

She said during this time of the year, they always showcase our island’s culture at the centre, but they can’t do it without the help of the parents.

According to the administrator, all the activities done at the school were reinforced by the parents at their homes.

“The parents sent videos of activities from their homes. It was basically a continuation of the work done at the centre,” Mrs. Elcock said.

She indicated that the children exhibited immense interest in the activities, which was amazing.
