GROS Islet Veterans Football Club emerged winners of the Main Championship in this season’s Veterans In Sports Inc. [VISI] tournament; while SLU Metals Central Vieux Fort (CVF) took home the Plate Championship trophy, in the finals, played last weekend, at the Dennery playing field.
On Sunday, in the grand finals Gros Islet defeated Lancers Veterans 2-0, to wrestle the championship title.
Rafferty Noel put Gros Islet ahead from the penalty spot in the 58th min., before Elijay Ornaville let in an own goal in the 75th minute to secure the victory. The defending champions Lancers were in contention for another shot at the title, up to the finals, with both sides having had some impressive runs but the northern-based side dug deep to win the title.
The Gros Islet Veterans Football Team were the winners of the 2023 Veterans In Sports Inc [VISI] Saint Lucia 2023 Masters Championship, last May.
In the Third Place Play Offs of the Main Championship – All Blacks of Dennery demolished Soufriere Veterans 6-1.
Mogabi Polius netted a hat-trick with goals in the 41’, 44’ and 70’, with Calixte Biscette converting a brace with strikes in the 17’ and 77’ and Andrew Charles 12’.
Last Saturday, SLU Metals Central Vieux Fort beat Anse La Raye Veterans with a convincing 4-1 score to lift the Plate Championship trophy.
Fielding a ‘star- studded’ lineup that included some dynamic ex-national players in their camp, CVF took the early initiative in the game. Andy “Bhutto” Jn. Baptiste converted in the 8’, before Jefferson Jones doubled up in the 19’.
Mansha Arthur pulled one back for Anse La Raye in the 21’, but CVF stepped up the momentum with Earl “Ball Hog” Jean scoring in the 41’ and Titus “Titi” Elva in the 49’.
In the Third Place Play Off, Mon Repos Sharks emerged victorious over Laborie 4 – 2 via the penalty shootout, after being locked 1-1 at the end of regulation time.
