Saint Lucia’s National Senior Men’s Football Team is currently in a phase of transition, diligently preparing for two crucial matches in the 2026–2027 CONCACAF Nations League Championship on home soil.
On Friday, they faced off against Barbados at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground (DSCG), with a match against Bermuda scheduled for Monday. The team is determined to secure a top position in their League B, Group B fixtures
Ahead of Friday’s encounter, newly appointed Head Coach Rajesh Latchoo expressed optimism about the Piton Boyz’ prospects in the tournament, stating that he anticipates a strong performance from the team. He emphasized the strong bond among the players and the importance of helping them adapt effectively to their roles within the squad.
Latchoo has enlisted several top professionals to enhance critical areas of the team, injecting new energy and structure into their gameplay. Addressing the issue of age within the squad, Latchoo is preparing the players to assume greater responsibilities as the team evolves toward its ultimate goal: qualifying for the FIFA World Cup.
He noted the squad’s depth and attacking capability, asserting, “Each player is an expert in his own right.” His vision remains clear: to lead Saint Lucia to FIFA World Cup qualification, with winning the Nations League Championship as a vital step toward that goal.
Among the latest additions to the technical unit is Earl “Ball” Hog Jean, a former professional and national player known for his striking prowess. He is expected to leverage his extensive experience to fortify the team’s offensive strategies and help maximize the strikers’ potential.
Miran Louis, the newly appointed Technical Director of the Saint Lucia Football Association (SLFA), shared his optimistic outlook for the progressive development of Saint Lucian football over the next five years. He underscored the importance of a pathway from grassroots programs to the national team, acknowledging that while challenges persist, the structure of football in Saint Lucia is evolving positively.
With confidence and high expectations, the team is set to make a strong statement in this year’s Nations League Championship.
