It is quite apparent that there is more money in circulation on the island, or improved wages, or more learning opportunities and plenty of large, medium and small businesses are shooting up here, there and every where.
Yet our attitudes towards our environment and general fellowmen seem to be at an all-time low. Check beach activities, where plenty of people are enjoying the beach front, but will not ensure that they leave the environment clean, despite the many rubbish bins provided.
On our roads, these days, it’s all about bright lights, exceptional speed and overtaking any where and any time.
As for the killings, every day another one bites the dust, bad deals amounts the youth — especially the male sector — continuing to create a state of criminality.
Even woman, who used to be considered the pillar of our society, are behaving worst than the young men and everybody is into an illegal business.
Children of all ages gather in the City Center after school, creating a kind of nuisance.
More police in the force, more equipment available, better pay is now in the play, but still not able to lower the state of criminality.
Everybody feels they should do as they please, tying to beat the system and grab as much as they can, but giving little back.
There is no love among friends, nobody can’t trust nobody, you cannot get friends’ support and everyone has an agenda.
Everyone wants a job to earn top dollars, but will do all that they can to minimize the work load and absenteeism is also a major problem.
Most people who drive know that it takes more time to get to work these days, but will continue to leave their homes at the last minute — and blame the traffic situation.
What has made us so uncaring or so insensitive baffles me, but from my observation we are becoming our worst enemies. We are quick to point fingers, blame the government, creatize our employees, steal as much as we can on the job, we always have a deal, something to peddle, something to sell, and in the process being dishonest.
I don’t know what has caused that behavior, maybe it goes with worldwide trends. We want everything, but mostly through the crooked way.
Where will this new inculcated attitude take us? Are we into breaking-up or building? Do parents have any say in how their children are brought up?
Are we fighting a loosing battle, or can we redirect the youth through more continous attemps?
If we do not take responsibility for the outcome of our people’s behavior, then who would get us out of the rot?
Life must have purpose. There must be actions that are less-destructive. We have to assess the reasons and find a solution to the present. If not, crapo smoke our pipe.
We cannot continue the Blame Game, because the children are a product of their parents and the friends some choose to hang out with – and that could also be among the reasons for their behavior.
Just some of my Food for Thought…
