The Sir Arthur Lewis Community College (SALCC) in collaboration with the St. Lucia National Commission for UNESCO, this week unveiled a commemorative plaque on the inscription of the Derek Walcott Library on UNESCO’s Memory of the World Regional Register.
The April 22nd event on the grounds of SALCC, home of the Derek Walcott Library, comes after being officially inscribed on November 12, 2025.
A small gathering was on hand to witness the unveiling, with local literary senior John Robert Lee delivering the feature address.
SALCC’s Librarian Mrs. Kathy Birch McDiamed say unveiling of the commemorative plaque will stand as a lasting symbol of the recognition of the Derek Walcott Library, “honouring the Library’s legacy, its contribution to our documentary heritage, and its enduring place in the cultural life of Saint Lucia.”
