At the media launch for this year’s Lucian Carnival festival, earlier this month, Dylan Weekes Pitcaire was honored as one of the iconic figures who spurred the development of the island’s Mas celebrations. An avid carnival reveller, costume maker, and designer, he was at the heart of the festivities.
Due to illness, his daughter accepted the trophy on his behalf. Among the other honorees that night were Antonius “Secra” Gibson, Jah T Anthony, and Francis “Shining” Emmanuel.

Sadly, months before the 2026 festivities, Dylan made his earthly departure.
In a heartfelt Facebook post, his friend and freelance photographer Lucius Doxerie Sr. reflected, “Dylan was a man of many talents, excelling in all. He was a remarkable sportsman at Saint Mary’s College and beyond.”
Doxerie continued, “A second-to-none broker with a cherished passion for all things carnival—from costume design to construction.”
He added, “A pragmatist at heart, Dylan has departed like many before him, but his contributions— in more ways than one—are indelible.”
Dylan was a formidable figure in the Carnival Bands Association, and his input will be sorely missed by the group, its wider membership, and passionate carnival revelers.
Additionally, Michael “Midget” Pierre has penned a heartfelt tribute to his friend, colleague, and inspiration, Dylan Weekes Pitcairn, who has transitioned to the great beyond. Dylan will surely be missed.
Reflecting on their time together at St. Mary’s College (SMC), Pierre shares, “Dylan excelled in track, specifically in the 100 meters, 200 meters, and 4 x 100 meters, where he represented Tapon House with distinction and class.”
Pierre recalls, “During my final year at SMC, I had the privilege of captaining Tapon House, with Dylan as my worthy Vice Captain. Upon my graduation, he admirably took over the reins.”
From their boyhood days as neighbors in the Lanse Road area, Pierre notes that “the realms of carnival strengthened our bond.” Eventually, a group—including Dylan—decided it was time to move on from the Royalites carnival band, leading to the formation of the New Dimensions Band.
The band’s first portrayal, “Cats,” was a masterpiece of creativity designed and produced by Dylan, featuring sections such as Aristocats, Hot Party Cats, Tiger Cat, Black Cat, and Alley Cats, with Pierre serving as the section leader.
Dylan was also instrumental in designing and building numerous Queen of the Bands and Carnival Queen costumes, achieving remarkable results.
Additionally, he showcased his versatility by penning several calypsos, marking him as a formidable competitor in the performing arts.
Moreover, Dylan originated the Lime Jam, a lively pre-carnival street celebration.
As Pierre reflects, “Let’s sit back and reminisce with joy the satisfaction Dylan brought during his time with us. I find comfort in knowing he played an integral role in my life. To his family, I encourage you to let his legacy inspire others, as he has been a true beacon of light.” Journey well, my brother.
