“We’re proud to stand behind the Students’ Council of the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College in their Sports Empowerment Initiative,” stated a release from the bank. The release went on, “These resources will help student-athletes train harder, compete stronger, and represent their school with pride and passion.”

The donation, which formally occurred during SALCC’s Sports and Clubs Fair on October 1, included footballs, basketballs and netballs for the four SALCC sports houses: François Falcons, Lewis Lions, Thomas Tigers and Walcott Wolves. The contribution represents a significant step forward in strengthening the sporting culture at the College and empowering student-athletes.

Former council president Naeem Philbert celebrated the donation and its impact on the overall Sports Empowerment Initiative, which started under his 2024/25 tenure.

“The Sports Empowerment Initiative was born out of a vision to rekindle the pride, unity, and competitive spirit that so vibrantly define the SALCC experience. It’s truly heartening to see this vision continue to flourish through the support of partners like 1st National Bank, whose commitment to youth empowerment and community development continues to make a lasting impact.”

With the support of corporate partnerships such as 1st National Bank St. Lucia Limited and other outreach efforts, the council has been able to raise over EC $12,000 for this student-led initiative.

SALCC Principal Dr. Madgerie Jameson-Charles, commended the initiative, noting in her endorsement that “sports has long been recognised as an essential part of personal and societal growth…the Sports Empowerment Initiative seeks to develop individuals who are ready to face challenges, work collaboratively, and lead with integrity.”
