Today (Saturday), Saint Lucia will decisively face off against Barbados in the finals of the Windward Islands Senior Women’s Football tournament at Arnos Vale, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), with kick-off set for 7:00 p.m.

Expect an electrifying atmosphere as the top female players from the region take the field. Before the grand finale, host SVG will clash with Dominica for third place at 5:00 p.m.

Road to Glory: How They Got Here

In the preliminary round, Barbados faltered early, losing 2–1 to Saint Lucia. However, they bounced back fiercely, defeating SVG 2–0, and then dominated Dominica, overpowering them with a staggering 7–0 victory.

Saint Lucia launched their campaign with confidence, starting with a 2–1 win over Barbados, solidifying their position with a goalless draw against host SVG, and then cruising past Dominica with a commanding 5–0 win.

This year’s tournament showcased four fierce competitors: Barbados, Dominica, Saint Lucia, and host Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG).

Final standings after the preliminary round: Saint Lucia: seven points; Barbados: six points; Saint Vincent and the Grenadines: four points; Dominica: no points.

Furthermore, the United Nations (UN) is taking an active role alongside the Windward Islands Football Association (WIFA) to host the 2025 Regional Women’s Football Tournament. This event will stand as a powerful platform for women and girls to lead, inspire, and showcase their skills on the field.

According to a UN post, a joint statement from Simon Springett, Resident Coordinator of UN Barbados and OECS, and Isiuwa Iyahen, Head of Office a.i. at UN Women Caribbean, reaffirms the importance of this event, branding it a ‘symbol of resilience, unity, and recovery.’

“The Caribbean is a collection of communities, and sport is a vital component in driving social change—promoting fairness, respect, and equal opportunities for everyone,” stated Springett.

“This event transcends competition; it stands as a testament to resilience, unity, and recovery,” emphasized Iyahen. “As we look toward Beijing+30, your dedication in this arena showcases our progress while igniting the journey ahead to ensure equal opportunities for women and girls in all fields, including sports. Every athlete here, your strength and skill shatter barriers in football and inspire a new generation of women leaders, proving that true progress arises when women are visible, valued, and victorious—both on and off the pitch.”
